“McCain is not a hero.” – Howard Zinn

by Matt

I just finished listening to an interview with (the so-great-I-named-my-son-after-him) Howard Zinn, in which he tells it like he see it:

“…You mentioned McCain as a pilot in the war. I think something should be said about McCain — that I haven’t seen anybody in the press or politics dare to say and somebody should say it — and that McCain is not a hero. Sure McCain sustained torture and abuse when he was a prisoner, but McCain dropped bombs on villages in Vietnam and killed innocent people. That is not heroic.”

Now, whether you agree with that or not, your American History education is not complete if you haven’t read Zinn’s landmark work, A People’s History of the United States.
